The Scanlon Institute Ethics Committee was established to ensure all research conducted in the social cohesion space, whether by the Scanlon Institute or other researchers in the field, meets the highest ethical standards in line with the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research. It operates independently of the Institute and is made up of nine highly experienced members. The Scanlon Institute Ethics Committee reviews, approves and monitors research in the social cohesion, multiculturalism, immigration and related areas to protect participants, while upholding integrity in social research practices.

Responsibilities include assessing research projects, monitoring compliance, handling complaints, and reporting annually to the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC).

The Scanlon Institute Ethics Committee is a registered Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) with the NHMRC.

Applying for review

To apply for review, you can use our project submission template. This is a simplified version of the HREA portal questions with answers narrowed down to confine applications to our Ethics Committee’s area of expertise. You will still be required to submit a Project Description. Please contact us for further information at ethics@scanloninstitute.org.au.
